The PEP : Terms of Sale and Technical Requirements
Registration - Hard Drive Install - Technical Requirements - Institutional and Library Users - Copyright Obligations
The PEP DVD has security controls to protect PEP's and the Journal's copyrights. After installing the PEP DVD on your computer, you have fifteen days to register the license with PEP. After 15 days the article infobase will no longer open until you register the license. Directions for either email or telephone methods of registration are explained on this website in the section under Register and License. Alternatively, you can find this information in the PEP License Registration Help File on the DVD which will be installed to your PC, and on the inside cover of the DVD on the right hand side under Licensing Instructions.
The Archive 1v7 is downloaded to your hard drive for fast access so that there is no need to carry the DVD. To use it you will need about 2 GB free space on your hard drive (HD).
A. Apple Macintosh: Unfortunately the PEP DVD will not work on computers using the Mac operating system. Mac users are advised to have a web subscription which works with a browser and poses no problems for the Mac OS, however, if you have the Intel Processor on your MAC, you can install Windows XP or Vista and a program called Parallels, and then the PC version DVD will work on your MAC.
B. Microsoft Windows: PEP Archive 1v7 uses an upgraded Folio Search Engine which has enhancements and is compatible with various 32 bit versions of Windows. It will run on Windows 98/98SE, Windows NT 4.0 (SP6 and newer) Windows 2000 (SP2 and newer) and XP (SP2 and newer) and Windows Vista with at least 128 MB RAM memory. Given how the amount of memory affects the general speed of the platform, even more memory is better (256 to 512 MB recommended). At least SVGA (800x600) with a 256 colors display is required, XGA or better resolution is recommended (Folio can take advantage of whatever screen space you have available--with more screen space, you will be able to see more of the text at one time. Only Version 1 of the PEP Archive 1 will run on the older 16-bit Windows 3.x platforms.
C. Hard (HDD) Space: The A1v7 archive is too large to fit on a CD; for this reason, we have produced v7 as a DVD, which must be installed to your hard drive before use. At least 2.00 GB (1000 MB) free hard disk space must be available for the installation of this latest PEP Archive. Additional space is required, of course, as sufficient free hard disk space must be available after the install for Windows and applications to use as memory swap space and temporary file space. Running from the HDD has superior speed and efficiency. If you do not have enough HDD space, we would suggest you get a second HDD. If you have a high speed USB2.0 or Firewire port on your computer, it's probably easiest to get an external hard drive. If you do not have USB2.0 or Firewire, you can install one of these interfaces via a PCI card for desktops or a Cardbus (PCMCIA/PC-CARD) card for laptops.
