Questions and Answers about licensing the PEP CD

Here are some answers to some frequently asked questions as well as some tips that will make using the new update easier for you:

Q. Do I have to re-license my update if I am licensed already on an earlier version of the archive?

A. Yes, all new update users must go through the licensing process. This process is necessary in order to protect the significant costs of production and development as well as to protect copyrights. You will also have to re-license PEP Archive on a new computer.

Licensing PEP Archive 1 updates:

When you license by either email or telephone, it is necessary to first open the "License the PEP Archive". Here are some common problems.

Problem: The license screen is blank and does not match the screen on the help file for license registration.
Solution: After opening the "License the PEP Archive" go to either "license" at the very top of screen, or "right-click" on the highlighted "single user" file. Doing so will bring up the proper screen which will say: "receive telephone update", which then allows you to go through process to generate the 22 alphanumeric challenge numbers. If you instead click "By License", you get the blank screen. Your PEP CD1v3 must be in your CD ROM player in order to license.

Problem: The 22 alphanumeric number DOES NOT work after I copy and insert into the "receive response" box.
Solution 1: Many people close their PEP licensing program inadvertently, rather than simply working over the program, by bringing up any other program they would like to work on while waiting. PEP Customer Service will try to get the "receive response" number back as soon as they are able. The response number is specific to the send number and the computer which just sent it. If the screen is closed, a new "send challenge" alphanumeric number must be generated. After sending challenge number, DO NOT CLOSE LICENSE PROGRAM, but leave screen up and wait for PEP Customer Service to get back to you with new "receive response" number. You can work on other programs and the license screen (challenge screen) just sits there, under the program you are working on.
Solution 2: A few people have accidentally gone from the "Start" tab to their PEP Archive CD program file (Archive 1V(old update), rather than to the new update they have just installed and tried to license. You must license the New Version PEP CD, and not the older program as they are unrelated as far as a license goes. Others have not had the CD Rom disc in the drive.

Q. Do I have to stay online, once I have sent my challenge number by email?

A. No, you do not have to stay online, unless you use cable and stay online anyway. Please check back every couple of hours to receive your email from PEP. During the next month, PEP online Customer Service checks during the day to try and return the response numbers as soon as possible. However, there can be a delay up to 24 hours at the worst. Do not confuse closing down your email-online program with closing down the PEP License Program. As stated above, if you close down the PEP License Program, you will have to begin the license process all over again.

Q. How long do I have to operate the update after my new installation, before having to license?

A. From time of installation you have 15 days -- for the demo mode to still work. Beyond the 15 days, you can still just use your older version. Both Archives can run concurrently. But, to avoid confusion, at a convenient time, install and then re-license - then totally remove your old PEP Archive program from your computer -- and give it to a friend telling them they have a 15 day demo period to see if they like it, or throw it away.
